Why Choose Recording Arts?

In the Recording Arts program you'll learn about the physical and psychoacoustic properties of sound; the techniques of making, editing and processing sound recordings; the aesthetic contribution of sound to media; and how to make technically competent recordings of music, as well as production and post-production sound for film and television media.

We have a wide array of tools you need to practice your craft. Our 5.1 and 7.1 film mixing stages are equipped with both Avid C-24 and Avid S6 consoles and Genelec, JBL, or Meyer Sound speaker systems. You’ll get real life experience working sound on film sets, using production sound equipment kept fully current with the industry, and producing live concerts on campus using our Digico SD9 digital console and Dynacord Cobra speaker system.

Mastering audio skills on state-of-the-art equipment is only part of the mix; the most essential learning takes place when you collaborate with your undergraduate and graduate peers amid the school's intensely creative environment.

You'll be working with instructors who are themselves part of the industry and will participate in presentations and hands-on workshops led by award-winning alumni and professionals. You will be collaborating with some of the most gifted animation, film production, screenwriting students in the country. Most importantly, you'll acquire the knowledge and skills you need to push your creativity to the limit– so you can share the glorious sound you hear in your head with the world.
